Welcome to The University of Iowa Flute Studio!  

Here you will find information regarding flute studies at the University of Iowa, School of Music.

The current flute studio is comprised of 5 graduate students and 10 undergraduate students.   Degrees offered include Bachelor of Music (BM) in Performance, Education or Music Therapy, Bachelor of Arts (BA), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Fine Arts (MFA), and Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA).

Many performing opportunities are available for flutists studying at The University of Iowa.   Flute majors participate in numerous ensembles including The University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Center for New Music, Woodwind Chamber Ensembles, Flute Ensemble and many others.

The University of Iowa is frequently visited by distinguished musicians offering master classes, recitals and workshops.    Recent and upcoming guests include: Amy Porter (University of Michigan), Leone Buyse (Rice University) Jeffery Zook, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, John Bailey (Univ. of Nebraska-Lincoln), Conor Nelson (Oklahoma State University), Claudia Anderson (Zawa), and the Borealis Wind Quintet.

The University of Iowa offers financial assistance in the form of merit scholarships, assistantships, and fellowships. Several part-time professional orchestras in our area, such as the Cedar Rapids, Waterloo-Cedar Falls, Des Moines, Dubuque, Quad City, Oskaloosa and Ottumwa symphonies are excellent sources of additional musical experience and income.
