Sarah Beland received her undergraduate degree in Flute Performance from Wartburg College. She currently teaches flute at West Music Studios in Corallville, IA and is also Adjunct Instructor of Flute at Culver- Stockton College in Missouri. She will complete her Masters in Flute Performance from the University of Iowa in May 2008. |

Martha Councell is an active solo, chamber and orchestral musician, having performed in Europe, Central and South America, and across the United States. She is a top prizewinner in several national competitions, including the Frank Bowen Flute Competition (Albuquerque, 1996), Flute Talk Competition (Chicago, 1996), and the National Flute Association's Young Artist Competition (Columbus, 2000). She has performed internationally as part of the Festival Internacional de Flautistas in Lima, Peru, the Asociacion Nacional de Conciertos in Panama City, Panama, and in Paris France, where she was invited to perform at the Jean Pierre Rampal International Concours de Flute in 2005. In the summer of 2007 she toured the United Kingdom, with performances in London and Dublin. She has performed as a guest soloist with professional orchestras on the east coast and in the Midwestern United States. Ms. Councell earned degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory, where she studied with Michel Debost, and Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, where she studied with Leone Buyse. Ms. Councell is adjunct faculty at Graceland University in Lemoni, Iowa, where she teaches flute and chamber music, and is currently a doctoral fellow at the University of Iowa. Emily Fenton
I am a third year student at the University of Iowa, working toward a B.S. degree in Biology, Neurobiology as well as a B.A. in Music Performance. I am originally from Waterloo, Iowa, but I call Iowa City home and live here year-round in an apartment off-campus. I enjoy my membership with the Lindy Hawks, the competitive dancing team of the University Swing Club, as well as volunteer work with various large organizations during the year.

Rolando Jose Hernandez Gaitan , a first year student at the University of Iowa studying with Nicole Esposito, was born in Heredia Costa Rica and started playing the flute at the age of ten. He has participated in the Youth Program of the Nacional University of Costa Rica, and has also studied at the Castella Conservatory, where he has played with several ensembles such as the Symphonic Band, Student Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and the "Estudiantina". Rolando performed as a soloist with the Castella Conservatory Camerata orchestra in 2005. He has also participated in the International Flute Festival of Costa Rica.

Megan Hofeldt graduated with honors and high distinction from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor's degree in flute performance. She is currently pursuing her Master's degree. At the university, Megan has performed with Symphony Band, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Center for New Music, and Flute Ensemble. In addition, she was a founding member of the Iowa Honors Wind Quintet, an ensemble dedicated to serving the community through educational and interactive music performances. She has a large private studio at West Music and is the coach of the New Horizons Flute Ensemble at the Iowa City Senior Center.

Ryne Van Horn is a junior flute performance major at the University of Iowa. He was a finalist in the 2007 Des Moines Symphony Young Artist Competition, the 2005 Schubert Club Scholarship Competition, and the 2004 Western Illinois University Concerto Competition. In high school, Ryne was a member of the Iowa All-State Orchestra & Band all four years, won the 2002 UNI Northern Festival of Bands Solo Competition, and was a winner of the 2003 NFA High School Flute Choir Competition. He has performed in masterclasses for Amy Porter, Jim Walker, John Bailey, Brooks de Wetter-Smith, and Sherry Kujala. Major teachers include Nicole Esposito, Gro Sandvik, Immanuel Davis, Angeleita Floyd, Tamara Thweatt, Andrea Redcay Graves, Torleif Ander, and Margaret Linnan Kegel. Ryne plays a 14k Emanuel flute and a Brannen Brothers piccolo.
